Wallpapers can make all the difference between a fun desktop and a dull one. The latest Windows versions have made it easier and more comfortable to select different wallpapers, but ChronoWall completely changes the way you organize and apply them. Its main feature is the possibility of scheduling new wallpapers according to a time and date or season. While the application is active, your desktop images can change to something colorful during spring or something white during winter. Alternatively, you may set the application to switch to different wallpapers at dawn, noon or any other time of the day.

The application's setup kit is 34 Mb large, which is not too much for modern day hard drives, but it can take some time to download if your Internet connection is too slow. The installation process will make up for lost time, due to the straightforward setup wizard. There are no complex settings to make along the way and the application will be ready in a few moments.

The application lets you place your wallpapers in separate folders, which are listed on the left side of the interface. This gives you the liberty of organizing them in any category you want. You may create wallpaper groups which you want to apply during a certain season or time of day, groups of abstract images and so on. Groups can be sorted by name, date and time or filtered to show groups for the current day or a specific season.

When creating a new group, you will obviously need to name it and load images. If you load more than one picture, you can set the application change the wallpaper every few seconds, minutes or hours. Additionally, you may choose to apply the group on demand or schedule it. It is possible to set ChronoWall to use a certain images group during a time interval of your choosing, by selecting beginning and ending dates or seasons. You can set a time of appearance as well. The images can be used all day or according to a timetable.

Numerous effects can be applied on your pictures, but what is more interesting is the fact that ChronoWall lets you specify when to apply a certain effect. An applied effect is displayed as a colored bar and you can add end points and align them with certain times of the day.

You can also use ChronoWall to search for pictures, wallpapers, or HDR images on Google, Bing and Flickr. This can be done on the interface's Searches page, where you need to create a new task. Simply type in your query, select a service, select a filter like wallpapers or HDR images and click an OK button to start searching. The found images can be added to an existing group instantly. Pictures can be downloaded from other sources as well. You can add RSS feeds and receive images or you can log into your Facebook account and set the application to download pictures from your friends.

Pros

ChronoWall is much more than a simple application for changing and organizing wallpapers. It lets you schedule them by seasons or dates of your choosing and it offers many ways of getting new pictures. The interface has a modern design and it can be used easily and comfortably.

Cons

You may need some time to figure out how to manually apply an wallpapers group. ChronoWall takes desktop customization to a whole new level. Thanks to its unique capabilities, your wallpapers can change automatically, to reflect a certain time of day, season and more.
